Soulja Boy is facing some new legal issues after he was taken into custody over the weekend.
According to a report NBCLA published on Sunday, August 3, the seasoned artist was arrested by police in Los Angeles following a late-night traffic stop. Soulja Boy, born DeAndre Cortez Way, was the passenger in a car that was pulled over by cops at 2:30 a.m. on Sunday. An officer noticed a firearm in the car. Once an investigation was conducted on the scene, officers placed the "Donk" rapper in handcuffs and booked him for being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Police have not yet explained why the car was pulled over in the first place. It's the latest of several legal issues Soulja Boy has experienced this year. Last month, the rapper's flagship SODMG store on Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles was burglarized. Thieves allegedly used bolt cutters to unlock the gates and smashed through the all-glass front door to gain access to the store. Once inside, they reportedly swiped an array of exclusive merchandise, including one-of-a-kind Bearbricks, hats, shirts, and hoodies. They also left with a custom-made leather jacket and his PlayStation.
Soulja Boy was also found liable for "Jane Doe's" claims of emotional distress, sexual harassment, and failure to pay wages. He was sued by a woman only known as "Jane Doe" in 2021. The unidentified woman claimed she worked as his assistant beginning in 2018. Within a month, Doe alleged that Soulja Boy sent her photos of his penis. They eventually began a romantic relationship, which quickly turned toxic and, at times, violent. The woman claimed the rapper raped her on several occasions, physically abused her, and once locked her in a with no food for two days.
The rapper was ordered to pay damages of $1 million for future harm from the sexual battery and $500,000 for the past abuse. Doe was also awarded an extra $2,650 for the unpaid wages.
