The Department of Justice (DOJ) has launched a grand jury investigation into allegations that political opponents of President Donald Trump conspired to falsely accuse him of colluding with Russia during the 2016 presidential election. Attorney General Pam Bondi directed the move, following a criminal referral from Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard. The investigation aims to examine claims that members of the Obama administration manufactured intelligence to link Trump to Russian interference in the election.

The grand jury will consider evidence and decide whether formal charges should be filed. The investigation follows Gabbard's declassification of documents that she claims undermine the Obama administration's conclusions regarding Russia's role in the 2016 election. Gabbard has accused former President Barack Obama and his national security team of orchestrating a "years-long coup" against Trump.

The grand jury could issue subpoenas and potentially consider indictments.

The investigation has reignited the debate over Russiagate, which previously led to a lengthy investigation by Special Counsel Robert Mueller. While Mueller's report found no evidence of coordination between Trump's campaign and the Kremlin, the issue continues to be a point of contention. Critics argue that Gabbard's allegations misrepresent the intelligence community's findings on Russia's attempts to influence the election.

The DOJ has declined to comment on the ongoing investigation.
