A fruit product sold in stores around the country has been recalled from several states over a potentially "fatal" health risk.
Doehler Dry Ingredient Solutions, LLC, has issued a recall for several lots of its 15-count Member's Mark Freeze Dried Fruit Variety Packs due to a listeria contamination discovered during internal testing, according to a recall notice shared by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration.
The recalled products were shipped to distribution centers in over three dozen states, including Tennessee, between July 1 and July 25 and sold in Sam's Club retail locations. See the full list of affected lot numbers on the FDA's website.
Listeria monocytogenes is the bacteria that can cause listeria, leading to "serious and sometimes fatal infections" that can cause severe illness in high-risk groups like children, the elderly, those who are pregnant and persons with weakened immune systems, according to the FDA. Symptoms can include fever, chills, headaches, muscle aches, nausea and diarrhea.
As of July 30, there had been no illnesses reported in connection to the recall. Anyone who purchased the affected products should throw them out and can visit Sam's Club for a refund.
