Multiple People Injured After Massive Explosion At Steel Plant

An explosion rocked a steel plant in Clairton, Pennsylvania, on Monday (August 11) morning. Officials declared a mass casualty incident as multiple ambulances and medical helicopters rushed to the U.S. Clairton Coke Works plant, where ten of people were injured in the blast.

Five of the ten injured victims have since been released from the hospital.

"Felt like thunder. Shook the scaffold, shook my chest, then shook the building. Then we saw the smoke coming up from the steel mill," Zachary Buday, who was working nearby at the time of the blast, told WTAE.

At least one person was killed and one person remain unaccounted for.

Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman said that he is monitoring the situation in a post on X.

"My team and I are tracking this explosion and waiting for more information. For those in the area, please listen to local officials and avoid the area. Keeping those injured and all who are impacted in my thoughts right now," he wrote.
