Transitions

August 11, 2025

It was a transition weekend. Like it or not, fall is upon us. How do we know? Kids head back to school today. The NFL preseason is in full swing and there is change in the air.

No, our temps are still in full-blown summer mode, and football players deserve some credit for those two-a-days they have undergone. Cam Little deserves a lot of credit for hitting what would have been an NFL record field goal, had it occurred in a regular season game.

As I was reading over the weekend, here’s what got me to thinking:

We are addicted to our devices and the instant communication they bring. With the start of school comes new school policy regarding them. That is if the Brevard school board can approve a policy tomorrow. I guess we begin the year today without one.

A story about why we need car dealers caught my eye.. Look, I hate the car buying process as much as anyone, but the alternative is not as good as the current model, for several reasons. Lauren Fix’s column has the details.

I ran into back to back stories on energy policy. The two show the distinction between Joe Biden’s energy vision and that of President Trump.

There’s a lot of concern in Brevard when it comes to hospitals. Losing Rockledge hospital was a blow to medical services in our community. There’s another phenomenon impacting medical care and it’s raising prices while reducing quality of care.

Then there was a story about cops and mental health. Services are more readily available than ever before, yet there’s a stigma attached to it, especially for someone wielding the power to take your freedom or your life.
