Ye's past struggles with his mental health are no secret, but now, fans will get an authentic glimpse into how he handled his issues in an upcoming documentary.

On Wednesday, August 13, Deadline debuted the first trailer for Nico Ballesteros' forthcoming documentary In Whose Name? The outlet reports the fill “examines the evolving nature of idolatry, both in Ye’s cultivation of public idolatry and in his pursuit of various idols, from luxury brands and celebrity to faith and family." Ballesteros spent the past six years filming personal stages in Ye's life, from the decline of his marriage to Kim Kardashian to his mental outbursts both in person and online.

“I’m off my meds for five months now,” West says at the beginning of the teaser.

“Your personality was not like this a few years ago!” Kim shot back.

“I would rather be dead than be on medication," Ye says later. "Either they destroy me or I destroy it.. I’m almost like a masochist… I write whatever I want when I want! It’s words!”

Ballesteros began filming Ye when he was just 18 years old. He recorded thousands of hours of footage that captured intense moments in the troubled rapper's life, like a mental breakdown he had in front of his former wife and his reaction to losing sponsorships during his controversial era.

“For a shy kid, the camera became both a shield and a window, a way to channel my introspection while still engaging with the world,” Ballesteros said in a statement. “Ye has always had someone filming him too, a lens between him and the noise. Maybe that’s why we understood each other without saying much. I was able to fade into the background, stay present, the camera always rolling, catching moments outside the public performance.”

In Whose Name? will be released by AMSI Entertainment. It's set to debut in select AMC, Regal, and Cinemark theater chains around the country on September 19. Watch the trailer below.
