David Justice Reflects on Marriage to Halle Berry

During a recent interview on Matt Barnes’ podcast, baseball great David Justice opened up about his short-lived marriage to actress Halle Berry, revealing why he decided to walk away. Justice, who was Berry’s first husband, said at the time he felt she did not seem “motherly,” noting she “does not cook” and “does not clean.”

While his remarks sparked criticism, Justice clarified that this was how he viewed relationships back then and admitted therapy could have helped them work through their differences. “I was young, I had only been in one real relationship before her,” he explained. “My knowledge and my understanding and wisdom around relationships just was not vast.”

The couple married in 1993 and divorced in 1997. Berry went on to marry twice more and is now in a relationship with musician Van Hunt. Justice, meanwhile, says age and experience have given him a very different perspective on relationships and the work they require.
