Enrique Santos has accomplished *a lot* in the past two decades on the air, but there's one moment he'll always consider to be the highlight of his career.

On Thursday, August 14, iHeartRadio shared its exclusive interview with Santos as part of its festivities leading up to National Radio Day. During the conversation, the host of the Enrique Santos Morning Show recalled the time when he prank-called the late Cuban dictator Fidel Castro early in his career.

"It'll always be iconic because it was so much more than just a joke," Santos explained.

"It was a statement. It was me stepping into my identity as a Cuban-American, using humor and using media to call out a dictator, the dictator that was the cause that my parents and grandparents exiled. It sparked something bigger than I ever imagined. It was a very important part in my career and my purpose moving forward in broadcasting.

On the flipside, Santos also spoke about the toughest time he'd ever experienced during his career. The seasoned radio host said the aftermath of the 2016 shooting at Pulse Nightclub in Orlando was the most horrendous moment he could remember. He recalled how he took his team to Orlando and did a live broadcast from the venue.

"As a man of the community and as someone in law enforcement still currently in the reserve status, I felt so many layers of pain but responsibility at the same time," he said. "I stayed on air and we cried together. That's when I knew radio isn't just entertainment; it's a lifeline. It's a real and true connection. A necessary connection."

Enrique Santos serves as the Chairman and Chief Creative Officer of iHeartLatino, who leads iHeartMedia's Latin direction and strategy. His daily signature morning show, Tu Mañana con Enrique Santos, originates from TÚ 94.9 in Miami and broadcasts all over the nation on weekday mornings from 6 -10 a.m. He also hosts On The Move with Enrique Santos, which is a two-hour, CHR weekend program.
