Two American passengers from Carnival Cruise Line ships drowned in separate incidents on Friday (August 15) at Celebration Key, a private resort in the Bahamas. The resort, a $600 million facility that opened in July, was the site of these tragic events, according to authorities.

The first incident involved a 79-year-old man who was snorkeling off one of the beaches at Celebration Key. Around noon, he became unresponsive, and despite efforts by a lifeguard and medical professionals to revive him, he was pronounced dead by a doctor. The man was a passenger on the Carnival Cruise Line ship Mardi Gras.

Later that day, around 2:30 p.m., a 74-year-old woman was found unresponsive in a swimming pool at the same resort. A lifeguard performed CPR, but she could not be revived. She was a passenger aboard the Carnival Elation.

Both victims were traveling with their families, and Carnival Cruise Line expressed its condolences, stating, "Our thoughts and prayers are with the guests and their families, and our Care Team is providing assistance." The Royal Bahamas Police Force is investigating both deaths, and autopsies are planned to determine the exact causes.

Carnival Cruise Lines is cooperating with law enforcement in the ongoing investigations. The names of the deceased have not been released.
