A Detroit woman was allegedly shot and killed in a local hospital by her ex-husband, whom she had previously sought protection from, per WXYZ.

Latricia Green initially filed for a personal protection order (PPO) against her ex-husband, Mario Green, on June 13 in Wayne County Circuit Court. In her application, Latricia noted that Mario was stalking her, calling her job to make threats, and once tried to enter her office without permission. The court denied the request.

On July 20, Latricia filed again, detailing an alarming escalation in his behavior.

“Since I was denied, he has now been able to break into my car and cut up my clothes, shoes and steal belongings from me and he followed me on multiple occasions,” she wrote. “I noticed him following me from Oak Park all the way back to the city… he continued to try and turn his car into mine and block me off.”

“I feel that the system has now let me down each time that I have tried to make reports on this man... I am now in mental distress and scared not knowing what to do. I am asking for help before this goes too far, and things are too late," Latricia added.

The court granted the PPO on July 21, ruling that Mario Green posed a threat. However, Detroit Assistant Police Chief Charles Fitzgerald said the order was never served.

“Unfortunately, [the PPO] was not served on her ex-husband,” Fitzgerald said. “So it almost brings us here today.”

On Friday (August 22), police said Mario confronted Latricia at Henry Ford Hospital, where she worked, and shot her multiple times during a verbal altercation. He fled the scene, but was arrested on Saturday (August 23) morning without incident.

“Our officers worked tirelessly to get this monster off the street,” Detroit Police Chief Todd Bettison said in a statement. “No person deserves what happened to Ms. Latricia Green, and my heart and prayers go out to her family.”

Henry Ford Health released a statement saying they are “devastated by the loss of our teammate,” adding that they're cooperating with the investigation into Latricia's death.
