TRUMP SAYS HE'S SENDING TROOPS TO CHICAGO And I am a hard pass on this plan unless and until the city of Chicago asks for help and so far they are NOT interested. What's interesting is that violent crime is WAY down in places like Chicago and Baltimore. Not great, but still way down. I was 100% in favor of troops to clean up DC because it's our nation's capital and I think that matters, plus Trump had the authority to take action there. He does not have the same authority in other cities, but he seems to be pushing to put the National Guard there anyway. The stats via ChatGPT for Chicago look like this year over year:

These numbers are not perfect but much, much better and moving in the right direction and make it hard for me to believe there is some sort of emergency that would justify the National Guard. One good thing, no black people were murdered in DC last week. There have been NO people murdered there in the last two weeks according to the New York Post. That does seem better, but shouldn't the people of Baltimore or Chicago ASK for the kind of help Trump is trying to inflict on them? If the good citizens of Chicago and DC are okay with fewer murders, but still murders, shouldn't we let them deal with it? Real question here.

RENEWABLES ARE FAILING AT SAVING US MONEY AND WORKING CONSISTENTLY There has been a bunch of climate change news this week that I want you to see. First off, this story from The Guardian about how Arctic ice has not disappeared and oh by the way, hasn't really shrunk much since 2005. But just ask the same climate scientists who have gotten the predictions wrong for years, it's COMING. We're all gonna die! Then there is this column from Doomberg about the failure of Spain's entire energy grid because of very specific issues related to how the power grid actually works and how a lack of investment in the grid lead to a nationwide blackout recently when the solar failed. Then there is this handy chart where you can see that electricity costs the MOST in states that have fully leaned into green energy. California, where they also have rolling brownouts quite often, has electricity prices TWICE what we have here. This article from City Journal isn't just about Colorado chasing California's green energy dreams but about how Colorado is following California down the drain in the process. Read this:

The biggest shift has taken place in Colorado, where Republicans were highly competitive as late as 2018. Governor Jared Polis’s image as a “libertarian” largely reflects his positions on social issues. Polis, who comes from the ultra-progressive university town of Boulder, presides over a state with the nation’s sixth-worst regulatory burden.

The results of Colorado’s leftward lurch are already evident. The Centennial State, once a leader in job and income growth, now ranks near the bottom in these categories. Remarkably, it’s now among the least attractive states to outsiders. Colorado’s business start-up rate has fallen and business confidence is low, tied to concern over rising regulations. Roughly half of business owners say the state is headed in the wrong direction. Destroying an economy like Colorado’s takes work, but progressives have been busy.

This is the message that the Republican party must run on. They must undo the damage that's been done by our progressive overlords.

THE SPECIAL SESSION JUST RAISED TAXES ON BUSINESSES And I sure hope the business community realizes that supporting Democrats, and I mean ANY Democrat in this state is going to make it way harder for them to succeed. ABOUT TRUMP'S EXECUTIVE ORDER ON FLAG BURNING You should read it here. In it, he clarifies that he is not banning flag burning per se, but lays out what I think are way too vague circumstances where the DOJ can pursue some sort of action against those who burn the flag. Read this part of the order:

(a) The Attorney General shall prioritize the enforcement to the fullest extent possible of our Nation’s criminal and civil laws against acts of American Flag desecration that violate applicable, content-neutral laws, while causing harm unrelated to expression, consistent with the First Amendment. This may include, but is not limited to, violent crimes; hate crimes, illegal discrimination against American citizens, or other violations of Americans’ civil rights; and crimes against property and the peace, as well as conspiracies and attempts to violate, and aiding and abetting others to violate, such laws.

That emphasis is mine. It seems they will look to find other laws to charge flag burners with, like setting a fire in a street or some such thing. I think the real meat of this EO is here:

(d) The Secretary of State, the Attorney General, and the Secretary of Homeland Security, acting within their respective authorities, shall deny, prohibit, terminate, or revoke visas, residence permits, naturalization proceedings, and other immigration benefits, or seek removal from the United States, pursuant to Federal law, including 8 U.S.C. 1182(a), 8 U.S.C. 1424, 8 U.S.C. 1427, 8 U.S.C. 1451(c), and 8 U.S.C. 1227(a), whenever there has been an appropriate determination that foreign nationals have engaged in American Flag-desecration activity under circumstances that permit the exercise of such remedies pursuant to Federal law.

DENVER PUBLIC SCHOOLS LEANS IN ON DEI With their new teacher contract and several parent groups are sounding the alarm. The new contract being voted on by teachers includes lots of racist DEI stuff. Read this:

According to an investigation by Defending Education, provisions in that section include the following:

• Race-based programs for teachers

• Race-based hiring quotas

• Mandatory “equity” training

• Racial equity analysis tools

• A committee to implement these DEI practices

Race based hiring quotas? Race based programs for teachers? I'm guessing the race that benefits from all this is NOT the white race. The not-so-funny part of this whole thing is that Denver Public Schools is well on their way to true equity, in that a majority of students can't read and do math on grade level. THAT is equity! Job well done!

THE LEGISLATURE PUNTS THE AI BILL Which is what needed to happen as they try to fix a bill that is absolutely horrible and another example of what happens when people who know nothing about an industry decide to micro manage it. They pushed implementation off until 2026.

OUR BREAD ISN'T REALLY BREAD AT ALL When I'm in Europe I can't get enough of the bread. It is SO GOOD. Who cares? They are checking receipts because scumbags are robbing them blind and making the prices go up for all of us. Maybe Costco trained me, but I see nothing wrong with this. SOUTHWEST TELLS PLUS SIZE PASSENGERS TO PONY UP This is a big change to their policies. Now plus size passengers will have to buy two seats if they can't fit within the confines of one seat. IF there are empty seats on the flight, they can request their money back after the flight, which I think is more than fair. This goes into effect when assigned seating goes into effect. These folks used to be able to just ask for an extra seat at the gate, but will now have to purchase them ahead of time. I have sympathy for plus size folks, but if you're using two seats, you're using two seats.
