Yes, You Can Be Naked on a Nude Cruise — But Not at Dinner

August 28, 2025

Going on a nude cruise might sound like a clothing-optional free-for-all, but there are still some rules. While passengers are welcome to enjoy most areas of the ship in the buff, there’s one space where nudity is strictly off-limits: the main dining room.

Cruise lines that host nude sailings allow guests to roam freely without clothes at the pool deck, spa, lounges, and even the nightclub. However, when it comes to dining in the ship’s formal restaurant, guests are required to put on clothes. Why? Hygiene and comfort. Cruise operators don’t want bare bottoms on upholstered dining chairs, and many fellow cruisers prefer a more covered-up atmosphere while eating.

That said, nudists who want to keep it casual can still enjoy meals without getting fully dressed. Most nude cruises offer a self-serve buffet or outdoor dining area where clothing isn’t required. This keeps the laid-back, body-positive vibe intact while still respecting shared spaces where food is served.

So, if you’re planning to book a nude cruise, be prepared to pack at least one outfit — even if it’s just for dinner.
