9/3/25 Blog: The Impact Of Space Command Leaving, Plus Tax The Rich Is Up

FOX 31'S DAVE FRASER JOINS AT 12:30 For our weekly Weather Wednesday segment so get your nerd questions ready.
FUTURIST THOMAS FREY TODAY AT 1 And we're talking about the recently signed Genius Act- the first comprehensive federal framework for stablecoin regulation. No longer experimental or unregulated, stablecoins gained legitimacy as essential components of the American monetary system. The Federal Reserve now oversees large issuers while providing access to master accounts that enable large-scale operations. A senior Treasury official noted that stablecoin growth will have “significant impact on the dominance of the US dollar and demand for US debt.”" So what does that mean? I have no clue but Thomas does. Read his column on it here.
WHAT DOES SPACE COMMAND LEAVING MEAN? Lots of stories today about the impact of Space Command leaving the Springs. This article from the Denver Gazette goes into what this means for the space industry here in Colorado and as you can imagine, it's not good. What's interesting is that no one seems to be making the case that being based in Colorado has any sort of space advantage OTHER than being in close proximity to the generals who make the decisions about contractors. Now I thought that stuff was supposed to be bid blindly with the companies with the best plan getting the job but I guess I'm wrong. A lot of the big defense contractors already have offices in Alabama, but the smaller firms are going to have to make a choice about whether to continue in Colorado or follow the money to Alabama. If the sole difference is access to generals I'm not sure a move must be made but we'll see.
DID THE DEMS DO THIS WITH THEIR TRUMP ANTAGONISM? This editorial makes the case well. After declaring this move to be "devastating" to national security, they lay out all the stuff that our Democratic "leadership" has done since Trump became President and it isn't good politics unless you're pandering to your old liberal base of No Kings rally attendees. Read this. The list of nastiness which goes well beyond what was necessary is impressive. But jokes on them, while they were resisting Trump resisted back and did so with a much more effective cudgel, he took Space Command and went home.
REP. JEFF CRANK SAYS IT'S NOT ALL BAD NEWS In this column he wrote, and we'll see if this is accurate:
While such a move will take years to implement, I am confident that this is not an across-the-board move and that important assets and jobs related to the Space Command mission will remain in El Paso County. I have also been told that Space Force missions will continue to expand in our community, and our military installations will play an integral part in President Trump’s Golden Dome Initiative.
Moreover, El Paso County will continue to be home to our five military installations, including Peterson and Schriever Space Force Bases, and Cheyenne Mountain Space Force Station.
Rep. Crank is on the House Armed Services Committee so he should know.
WATCH TRUMP'S FULL PRESS CONFERENCE BELOW And though Trump mentioned mail in ballots if you listen to Pete Hegseth he lays out a real justification for the move. Kyle Clark must have missed that. Yes, this was a political decision, but Democrats have been making solely political decisions in their "Resist" movement so is it all surprising?
IS WORKING HARD STILL ENOUGH? This is a very depressing survey and I think I understand it a bit. Read this from the Wall Street Journal:
A new Wall Street Journal-NORC poll finds that the share of people who say they have a good chance of improving their standard of living fell to 25%, a record low in surveys dating to 1987. More than three-quarters said they lack confidence that life for the next generation will be better than their own, the poll found.
Nearly 70% of people said they believe the American dream—that if you work hard, you will get ahead—no longer holds true or never did, the highest level in nearly 15 years of surveys.
I have a theory. Along with the financial shenanigans of the Great Recession (which wiped out our nest egg), we then shut down the economy over covid and then inflation hit. It's been a rough few decades. But I think we've changed expectations. Social media showing these 25 year old people in massive homes have given everyone the feeling that they should be at the same point. The reality is most of us don't hit out peak earnings until after 40. Most of my friends didn't buy a house until we were well into our 30s. We had roommates, roommates bought houses that helped them build wealth and we were broke for a LONG time. Yes, housing costs are insane and that should be addressed by rolling back idiotic regulations on new builds and perhaps limiting the number of houses any corporation or investment firm can buy in any area. But if you fall into this "it doesn't matter how hard I work" mindset you will remain broke FOREVER. The reason I find this very worrying is that when some politician rolls up talking about taking care of you from cradle to grave these people are going to listen.
ONE QUARTER OF DENVER EMPLOYEES ARE TAKING LEAVES Denver opted out of the family leave program offered by the state to create their own. Now it's getting out of control. Read this:
The Care Bank program went into effect in Denver in 2024, allowing city workers to take up to eight weeks of paid leave for a variety of reasons including personal health issues, caring for a child, or caring for a family member with a serious health condition. The program cost nothing for city employees, pays them 100% of their salary, and turned out to be extremely popular -- so popular that in the Denver paramedic division, leave usage in 2024 shot up 334%, necessitating overtime payments to employees to fill positions vacated by other employees utilizing the paid leave program. This year, the city estimates Care Bank usage will be even higher than last year, with 2,484 city employees taking the paid leave -- that's about one quarter of the entire city workforce.
Amazing what happens when you give people free money for doing nothing.
WE'RE GETTING WAYMO IN DENVER And I for one am stoked. I can't wait to find out how much it will cost me to take it from my house in Douglas County to downtown. I'm in. Mark me down. The first Waymo vehicles (which are freaky looking Jags) will arrive in September WITH drivers who will eventually be phased out. Read more here, but are you going to hop in one?
PROGRESSIVES ARE PUTTING A PROGRESSIVE INCOME TAX ON THE BALLOT And I'm sure their envy based "tax the rich" message will resonate with the same sort of people profiled in the article above, it will ultimately be bad for the state, as it has been in other high tax states that are seeing a mass exodus out. The argument seems to be that since Democrats have overspent on growing government and created a dire situation the taxpayers should have to bail them out. I mean, read this and see if it reads that way to you.
WHEN $1.3 BILLION IS ONLY WORTH $345 MILLION If you are lucky enough to win the Powerball tonight you won't get $1.3 billion dollars, not even close. Why? Taxes. In Colorado if you choose the lump sum payment (which you always should and then hire good people to help your money grow) you would only get $345,089,390 after taxes. I think I could get by on that, but I'd probably have to clip coupons.
BUT DID THIS CHANGE THE ELECTION? A former Boulder City Council candidate has settled his defamation suit against a man who set up a social media account pretending to be the candidate so he could share negative information. The settlement is essentially a guy named Eric Budd admitting that he set it up and sink the candidate and promising not to do that again. But did it change the outcome of the election? I think that matters because if there is no accountability for someone lying in an election other than an apology why wouldn't everyone else do it? In an era of increasingly convincing deep fakes I think this matters. I'm not sure what to do about it, but it matters.
FREE SPEECH IS DEAD IN THE UK And it's not just things being said IN the UK, but things that are said OUTSIDE the UK on social media. Graham Lineham is a comedian from Britain. As comedians do, he posted some saucy comments on X about trans women in real women's spaces, three posts to be exact. He moved the US a year or so ago, but was headed back to London for a visit. When he landed at Heathrow, he was greeted by FIVE armed police officers to be taken into custody for those tweets. This is what happens when the woke language police win. The Free Press did an editorial on it here. In it they lay out the history of the erosion of speech in the UK and sound the alarm because we are one left wing government away from this happening here. Can't you imagine our version of the "Banter Bill"?
Even Starmer, who faces dismal approval ratings, sounded critical of Linehan’s treatment, with a spokesman for the prime minister saying the police have other priorities, namely violent crime. Yet a “Banter Bill” currently working its way through parliament with Starmer’s blessing would penalize idle speech in pubs. It does this by defining “harassment” as speech that offends any server or bartender.
Wake up, Brits, this is the moment to fight.
THE HAT SNATCHER AT THE US OPEN HAS APOLOGIZED It's really tough to get away with anything these days and CEOs would do well to note that. Now HatGate has come to its conclusion as the Polish CEO who was filmed snatching a hat away from a child at the US Open has been outed and has now apologized. He lied in his apology, he knew who tennis player was giving the hat to, just watch this.

HE ROCKIES LOST THEIR HUNDREDTH GAME That's it, that's the story. Oh wait, for the THIRD CONSECUTIVE YEAR. That's the story.
CHIRPING AT HOMELESS PEOPLE IS A THING NOW And I mean actual devices which emit a flashing light and a chirping sound to dissuade homeless people from loitering on certain corners. This reminds me of those giant spinning fans to keep sea gulls out of restaurants in Florida. Of course homeless industry advocates say it's mean.
