Sabrina Carpenter is "old school" when it comes to relaxing at home.
After a long day of crafting new music and working late to bring fans her new album Man's Best Friend, how does the "Espresso" hitmaker wind down? While many people may park in front of their TV and tune in to the latest reality show, popular series or award-winning film, Carpenter chooses instead to listen to music. In fact, as she admitted in a new cover story with Interview Magazine, she doesn't own a TV.
"I don't even have a TV in my apartment," she said. "It sounds like I'm so disconnected and old school, but when I'm here, I just listen to music."
As for what kind of music she listens to, the "Manchild" singer prefers classic artists and music from the '70s, which she said is "where I find a lot of comfort songs."
"It's kind of all I know to listen to. It's what I was raised on. Recently I've been listening to a lot of the Blue Nile," she said, adding, "Obviously my love for bands like Fleetwood Mac and ABBA is endless, but I'm having so much fun discovering new albums."
Carpenter even drew inspiration from music of the past for Man's Best Friend, channeling the way some albums were "made to be albums" rather than have break-out hits, per People.
"It's not like, 'I know this album because it had the biggest songs on it,' but more so that I feel a certain way when I listen to it from start to finish,'" she said. Explaining how this concept applied to her new project, she added, "I was like, 'What if I was just writing exactly how I feel in this chapter?' Maybe the album only spans two months of my life, but that period is documented. It gets to live forever that way."
