Just One Thing: Trump vs Harvard

Yesterday a federal judge stomped the Trump administration's blocking of funding, mostly for scientific research, to Harvard. I have some thoughts...

Angela Burke is Director of Operations for Pivot Energy. We'll talk about a trend (or at least she says there's a trend) of farmers allowing some of their land to be used for solar panels. This is how Pivot Energy (obviously not an unbiased observer but also obviously on top of the issue) puts it: "Known as dual use solar, or agrivoltaics, this model combines farming and solar energy, giving landowners steady lease income while continuing to use their property for agriculture. Pivot Energy owns and operates the solar projects, while farmers continue using the property for grazing, pollinator habitats or crops. For many, this includes long-term land leases of 20 to 40 years that provide a stable source of income. It can also reduce or nearly eliminate the need for mechanical mowing and pesticides, improve soil health and create new income options for farmers and rural landowners. It also keeps the farmland preserved and in the family."

I get it…I think Biden abused TPS. But at some point the loss of these workers (and many of them are workers) will show up with various jobs not getting done and the cost of other jobs going up as people try to find workers:

This could work out very badly, and it's certainly not based in science: Florida to end school vaccine mandates - The Washington Post

Separately, as a libertarian I, by default, oppose government mandates, including about individual health. What makes this different is that since vaccines are mostly extremely effective but not 100% effective, not only can an unvaccinated kid easily get another unvaccinated kid sick but could even get a vaccinated kid sick. As president of the Bad Analogy Club, putting unvaccinated kids in schools is not like allowing someone to carry a gun in public but more like allowing someone to fire a gun up into the air and hope the bullet doesn't hurt or kill someone when it returns to earth.

.

Not surprising, and could result in a very important case (unless somehow SCOTUS decides they're fine with the appeals court ruling and lets that one stand by refusing to hear it themselves.)
