Four hikers were rescued from the Slide Mountain Wilderness near Giant Ledge in New York after experiencing a "debilitating high" from consuming magic mushrooms. The incident occurred on August 29, when the group sent a 911 satellite text to Ray Brook Dispatch at 5 PM, reporting their situation.

According to the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Forest Rangers, Rangers Franceschina, Jeffery, and Martin, along with the Pine Hill Fire Department, located the hikers by 6:45 PM. The hikers were then assisted back to the trailhead, where they were evaluated by Shandaken Ambulance and later transported to their rental lodging.

During the ordeal, the hikers lost their car keys. Ranger Martin returned the following day to retrieve the keys, which were found in a sling bag under a log in tall ferns. The Police Benevolent Association of New York State praised the rangers for their swift and effective response.
