San Diego's Big Downtown Parking Problem
September 5, 2025
The San Diego Union Tribune’s Phillip Molnar, who tracks what is happening in our local economy, our local housing market and more is out with a report that every Sam Diegan needs to read, especially city leaders but also business leaders and also that every resident of anywhere in San Diego County needs to read.
Molnar raises a question that has been on virtually everyone’s minds the last few weeks as well as a hot topic among our local talk show hosts.
The question is: “Did San Diego go too far with the $10 an hour parking fee for downtown special events?”
There are always people who oppose certain decisions made at City Hall, but the answer to this question has drawn more opposition than usual.
And it’s coming from downtown residents, downtown visitors, downtown business owners, downtown workers and even the San Diego Padres organization and their fans, and of course, they have two million or more people who come to Petco Park every season and have to pay for parking.
You’ve heard from a lot of these people here on the radio, with reaction and reports in the news to the hostile calls and text messages on the local talk shows.
Read Molnar’s Union Tribune report and you’ll see what some key people are saying about one of the hottest issues in San Diego.
