At least three individuals are in critical condition following a shooting at Evergreen High School in Jefferson County, Colorado, on Wednesday (September 10). The incident involved an "active assailant," according to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office. The county's 911 dispatch center reported the situation at 12:40 p.m., describing it as an "active scene" near the high school located at 29300 Buffalo Park Road.
The victims, including at least two students, are being treated at CommonSpirit St. Anthony Hospital in Lakewood. Officials said that the suspected shooter was also shot.
Authorities have urged parents and guardians to avoid the high school due to ongoing police activity. A reunification center has been established at Bergen Meadow Elementary, 1928 S. Hiwan Drive, to facilitate the safe reunion of students with their families.
Agents from the Denver division of the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives are on the scene, assisting local law enforcement. Colorado Governor Jared Polis stated he is closely monitoring the situation and emphasized the importance of school safety. "Students should be able to attend school safely and without fear across our state and nation. We are all praying for the victims and the entire community," Governor Polis said in a statement.
