Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce addressed his role in wide receiver Xavier Worthy's injury during their team's 27-21 loss to the AFC West Division rival Los Angeles Chargers in Brazil last Friday (September 5).

Kelce collided with Worthy during a third-down pass when both were running routes over the middle, with Worthy ruled out for the remainder of the game due to a dislocated shoulder.

“I’ll take the most accountability myself,” Kelce said to his brother and co-host, retired former Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce, during the latest episode of their New Heights Podcast released on . “I wasn’t ready for that first drive, I ran into one of my guys and offed him out of the game. I literally took one of my players out. That’s one of the most frustrating parts and it’s hard to get your juices back going knowing you just hurt a guy.

Worthy, who head coach Andy Reid said was "day-by-day," was targeted once prior to being ruled out for Friday's game. Kelce finished with two receptions for 47 yards and one touchdown.

Worthy was selected by the Chiefs at No. 28 overall in the 2024 NFL Draft, having been a two-time First-team All-Big 12 in 2021 and 2023 and Second-team All-Big 12 selection during his collegiate career at the University of Texas. The Chiefs will face the Philadelphia Eagles in a rematch of Super Bowl LIX during their home opener at Arrowhead Stadium on Sunday (September 14).
