Remembering the Link to San Diego in the 911 Terrorist Attacks

September 11, 2025

If you’re a parent you know how you worry about your kids. We all worry about our kids no matter how old they are.

And every year since September 11th of 2001, all parents probably think about that as we remember the anniversary of the terrorist attack on America.

And even it happened thousands of miles away in New York and Washington, each year, here in San Diego, we remember again the link to San Diego to what happened on that day.

In fact, it’s kind creepy to know that two of the hijackers who flew planes into buildings learned how to fly at Montgomery Field here in San Diego.

And that one of the leaders of Al-Quaeda lived here, studied here, taught here and helped prepare those pair of terrorists who lived in our community for a time before the attack.

And if you’re like me, you think about your kids and their kids and about the way the world changed on that day 24 years ago.

There always has been evil in the world, and of course, we know it still exists today. We see it in happening today.

But what happened on this day back in 2001 should remain a reminder that while evil exists, we believe that good can and does overcome evil.

And that’s what I tell my kids and my grandkids.
