Why Selena Gomez Thinks Benny Blanco 'Wouldn't Have Liked Me' 5 Years Ago

Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco got together at the right time.

The Only Murders in the Building star opened up in a new interview with Allure about how her romance with her I Said I Love You First collaborator came at the perfect time, and how even just a few years ago she "[doesn't] think I would have been remotely mature enough" for the relationship, per People.

"It's weird to think that only five years ago I wouldn't have been in the right place, but I've learned so many lessons [since then] that have led me to being the best partner I could be for Benny. And I believe the same with him," she said. "He'll say, 'Gosh, why did we waste so much time?' And I always say, 'You wouldn't have liked me back then.'"

The Rare Beauty founder, who got engaged to the producer in December 2024 after a year of dating, gushed over her fiancé, praising him for helping keep her grounded.

"I appreciate his heart, his kindness, his quirks... He's one of the most grounding people in my life, and he makes me feel very normal."

The "Love On" singer expressed a similar feeling in a joint interview with her beau earlier this year, admitting she wouldn't have "accepted" Blanco and his "unconditional love" at one point in her life.
