Ego Nwodim is exiting Saturday Night Live after seven seasons.
On Friday (September 12), Nwodim announced her departure from SNL just ahead of Season 51, which is set to premiere on October 4.
“The hardest part of a great party is knowing when to say goodnight. But after seven unforgettable seasons, I have decided to leave SNL." Nwodim wrote in an Instagram post. "I am immensely grateful to Lorne for the opportunity, to my castmates, the writers, and the crew for their brilliance, support, and friendship. Week after week on that stage taught me more than I could have ever imagined, and I will carry those memories (and that laughter) with me always.”
“Now invite me to your weddings please!!!” she added.
Nwodim first joined SNL in 2018 for its 44th season as a featured player. She was promoted to repertory status ahead of Season 46. The comedian became well-known for her viral characters and sketches, including “Lisa from Temecula” and Miss Eggy.
Nwodim's departure comes as part of a larger cast shakeup. Other cast members leaving ahead of Season 51 include Heidi Gardner, Michael Longfellow, Devon Walker, and Emil Wakim. SNL's upcoming season will mark the debut of several featured players, including Tommy Brennan, Jeremy Culhane, Kam Patterson, Veronika Slowikowska, and Ben Marshall, from Please Don’t Destroy.
