Voices in the Wake

September 12, 2025

The slaying of Charlie Kirk has stoked the flames of discussion. It was an immediate spark that should not be ignored.

Charlie Kirk was a free speech advocate, as we claim to be. But are we? We have seen an MSNBC analyst fired for his rhetoric after the tragic event. Was that right? It’s MSNBC’s call and maybe even the right one, but was there a better alternative?

The State Department is monitoring aliens in the country and is prepared to revoke their visas if they celebrate Kirk’s assassination. I like that one.

We’ll begin our day with those stories and as we return to some sense of normalcy in our conversation, let’s remember that what we do is all about having the conversation and working together toward understanding the issues in play with an eye toward solutions.

Florida’s ban on open carry of firearms has been struck down. Our Attorney General has issues to deal with including a potential opponent with President Trump’s backing. The ruling on petition gathering for ballot measures has been put on hold until an appeals court can review it.

It’s Friday of a very tough week…let’s head into the weekend.
