Police Officer Killed In Off-Duty Shooting In Volusia County
(Ormond-by-the-Sea, FL) --A police officer is dead after he was shot while off duty in Volusia County. It happened yesterday afternoon in Ormond-by-the-Sea at Ocean Shore Boulevard and Wisteria Drive. The sheriff's office says Edgewater Police Officer David Jewell was off-duty and out of uniform at a Circle K when he was shot several times in the head by an employee. The 45-year-old Jewell died at the scene. Deputies arrested Eduardo Felipe Labrada. There's no word on a motive, but deputies say the two knew each other.
Brevard County Commission To Discuss Gas Tax Hike
(Titusville, FL) --A meeting today could lead to higher gas prices in Brevard County. The county commission is meeting to discuss raising the gas tax up to six cents a gallon. Officials estimate it'll raise more than nine-million dollars in revenue.
Accused Dog Killer Goes Missing
(Orlando, FL) --A search is underway to find a woman accused of killing her dog at Orlando International Airport. The Orange County Sheriff's Office announced yesterday it can't locate Alison Agatha Lawrence. She's accused of drowning her dog in an airport bathroom in December after she was told she couldn't bring it on the plane with her. Deputies showed up at Lawrence's Clermont home recently after she failed to show for a court date, but she wasn't there.
Town Hall Held In St. Johns County To Discuss E-Bike Safety
(Ponte Vedra, FL) -- E-bike safety starts with education. That's what St. Johns County Sheriff Rob Hardwick said yesterday at a town hall meeting in Ponte Vedra. The meeting was held to discuss e-bike safety at a time when accidents are on the rise. Hardwick says there was another collision yesterday morning involving a car and a seven-year-old boy on an e-bike. The child was taken to the hospital, but there's no word on his condition. Hardwick says deputies are going to middle schools to teach kids about e-bike safety, but it has to start in the home.
Woman Arrested For Leaving Kids In Hot Car
(Sunrise, FL) --A Broward County woman is accused of leaving three children alone in a hot car. Ciera Washington was in court yesterday after she was arrested Sunday in Sunrise. She allegedly left the kids in a car outside a Walmart on West Sunrise Boulevard while she went shopping. Police say witnesses called 911 after hearing the kids making noise inside the trunk. Investigators believe the kids were left in the car for over half-an-hour, but they're OK. Washington is charged with child neglect without great bodily harm. A judge ordered her to stay away from the children pending a dependency hearing.
Palmetto Bay Official Could Be Removed From Office Over Kirk Post
(Palmetto Bay, FL) -- A social media post could be costly for an elected official in Miami-Dade County. Palmetto Bay Councilman Steve Cody has been criticized for a Facebook post mocking the death of conservative podcast host Charlie Kirk. Mayor Karyn Cunningham introduced a resolution yesterday to censure Cody. The resolution also asks the state to investigate if it can remove Cody from office if he doesn't resign. The resolution passed. Cody has apologized for the post and called it stupid, but he said he doesn't intend to resign.

1940, the Selective Training and Service Act was signed into law by President Franklin Roosevelt. It required all men between the ages of 21 and 45 to register for the draft. This was the first peacetime draft in United States' history.
