AG Speaks On New Firearms Rule

(Tallahassee, FL)-- Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier is warning gun owners not to brandish their weapons recklessly. His stern message comes after open-carry became legal in Florida. Uthmeier says protecting your family is more important now than ever. However, he says that doesn't mean gun owners can be careless. The A.G. asked law enforcement and prosecutors to stop enforcing the open-carry ban last week following a ruling by a Florida appeals court that deemed the ban unconstitutional.

Man Dies After Going On Ride At Universal Orlando

(Orlando, FL) -- An Osceola County man is dead from injuries suffered on a ride at Universal Orlando. Kissimmee's Kevin Rodriguez Zavala [[zuh-VAH-luh]] died Wednesday after going on the Stardust Racers roller coaster at Epic Universe. The Orange County Sheriff's Office says he died of multiple blunt impact injuries. He was 32. There's no word on how he was hurt, but the chief medical examiner calls the death accidental. Deputies are investigating. 

Violence Reported At Pulse Memorial

(Orlando, FL) -- A local resident claims he was attacked at the Pulse memorial. Cait Aparicio was there Saturday drawing on the sidewalk with colored chalk. It was Aparicio's way of protesting the state's decision to remove a rainbow-colored crosswalk near the memorial. Aparicio says a man took a rainbow flag and a transgender flag that were on display and threw them to the ground. When Aparicio and others confronted the man, he allegedly started hitting them with one of the flags. Video appears to show the man punching and kicking Aparicio. No arrest has been announced, but Orlando Police are investigating. Aparicio tells the Orlando Sentinel there's concern the lack of an arrest could embolden the man and lead to more attacks. 

Police Officer Cleared Of Manslaughter Charge In Deadly Shooting

(Miami, FL) -- A Miami-Dade Police officer can claim a legal victory. A judge yesterday dismissed a manslaughter charge against Officer Jose Mateo. He was charged for his role in a shootout with a kidnapping suspect in Broward County in 2019. Shots were exchanged on Miramar Parkway between Mateo and the suspect, and a UPS driver was killed in the crossfire. Mateo used the Stand Your Ground defense, saying the suspect shot first, and the judge agreed. The Broward State Attorney's Office says it'll appeal the judge's ruling.     

Five Protesters Arrested Near MacDill AFB

(Tampa, FL) -- Five people are facing charges after protesting in Tampa. Tampa Police say the suspects were blocking traffic yesterday morning near MacDill Air Force Base. The TPD says the protesters were told to move to the median or sidewalk, but five of them refused and were arrested. Each is charged with three misdemeanors that include obstructing a street, sidewalk or alley. 

CT: Dress Code Proposed For School District Teachers/Staff

(Torrington, CT)-- There's a proposal to impose a dress code for teachers and all staff in public schools in a Connecticut town. Currently, there is only a dress code for students at public schools in Torrington. Clothing that would be prohibited would include items like hooded sweatshirts and ripped blue jeans. While teachers' attire is not a chronic problem, a member of the Board of Education said the goal of a dress code is to foster a more professional learning environment.
