Ryan Routh, a 59-year-old man accused of attempting to assassinate President Donald Trump on a Florida golf course last year, was found guilty on all charges. The verdict was delivered after less than three hours of jury deliberation in Fort Pierce, Florida. Routh faced five charges, including attempted assassination of a major presidential candidate, assaulting a federal officer, and possessing a firearm with an obliterated serial number.
Routh created a "sniper's nest" near the sixth green of Trump International Golf Club. Although he never fired a shot, prosecutors presented evidence of his extensive planning, including surveillance of the golf course and communications about purchasing a rifle.
The trial featured testimony from 38 witnesses, including FBI agent Kimberly McGreevy, who detailed Routh's activities leading up to the incident. Evidence included call logs, text messages, and video surveillance. Routh's alleged preparations also involved a getaway plan with multiple aliases and a search for flights to Mexico.
During the trial, Routh represented himself and called three witnesses in his defense, including a former Marine sniper who testified about the weapon's condition. Despite his claims of no intent to assassinate Trump, the jury was convinced of his guilt.
Routh's daughter, Sarah, expressed her belief that the trial was unfair, stating, "It’s obviously all rigged and it’s all bulls***."
