Oklahoma State University has reportedly fired head football coach Mike Gundy, sources with knowledge of the situation confirmed to ESPN's Pete Thamel.
"Sources: Oklahoma State has fired Mike Gundy," Thamel wrote on his X account Tuesday (September 23).
Gundy, 58, is the longest tenured and winningest coach in Oklahoma State history with a 170-90 (102-72 Big 12 Conference) in 21 seasons in Stillwater, which includes a Big 12 Conference championship in 2011, two division titles and two Big 12 Conference Championship Game appearances. The Cowboys, however, have started the 2025 season with a 1-2 record, which included a 69-3 loss to Oregon in Week 2 and a 19-12 home loss to Tulsa last Saturday (September 20), as well as 11 of their last 12 games dating back to the 2024 season, the longest active losing streak of any Power 4 FBS program.

Gundy had previously claimed he "100 percent" intended to stay at Oklahoma State beyond the 2025 season hours prior.
"I'm under contract, here, for I think 3½ years," Gundy said on Monday (September 22) via ESPN. "When I was hired here to take this job, ever since that day, I've put my heart and soul into this and I will continue to do that until at some point, if I say I don't want to do it or if somebody else says we don't want you to do it."
