AJ Michalka Shares How 'Super Sweet' Run-In With Ex Joe Jonas Led To Collab

AJ Michalka is sharing "sweet" details about reconnecting with her ex-boyfriend Joe Jonas years after they dated as teenagers.

AJ, one half of the duo Aly & AJ with her sister Aly Michalka, recently spoke with People about running into the Jonas Brothers musician while they were all backstage at The Kelly Clarkson Show in May, marking the first time they had been together in around a decade.

"It was super sweet," she said. "He met [Aly's son] Jack and we hung out a little bit backstage."

The next day, Jonas sent Aly and AJ a text asking them to perform with him at his show at The Mint in Los Angeles following the release of his newest solo album Music for People Who Believe in Love. The sister duo made a surprise appearance during the show to sing their 2005 song "No One," which Jonas said was his favorite.

"We were like, 'Yes of course.' It was a really awesome moment," she said, adding why she think the performance resonated with fans. "I think the fans were pleasantly surprised, and it had been so long that I think it was really refreshing for a lot of fans to see us back together. But he's lovely. It was a really fun night."

The trio even poked fun at longstanding rumors that Aly & AJ's 2007 hit "Potential Breakup Song" is about Jonas following his brief relationship with AJ when they were teens.
