What Miramar Air Show Says About San Diego
September 26, 2025
The return of the USS America, to San Diego on the eve of the start of the Miramar Air Show, the largest military air show in America, is a reminder of something that helps make San Diego America’s Finest City.
With the amphibious assault ship’s home port now re-established in San Diego after spending six years forward deployed in Japan, it’s arrival is a symbol of what the military means to San Diego.
And it’s not just about warships, fighter jets and attack helicopters.
Even though when you walk onto a real military base, the Marine Corps Air Station Miramar you see and can even touch a lot of military aircraft and learn about the technology and witness what the aircraft can do in the sky, what most visitors mostly appreciate are the people, the men and women in the Marines who have voluntarily committed themselves to defending the rest of us, every day.
And the men and women who fly and maintain the Navy’s Blue Angels, the best of the best.
With more military bases in San Diego than in any other city in the U.S. our community is rich with military history and rich with the special people who show us every day the commitment, character and courage of the Marines and sailors in San Diego.
