Naomi Cooke Johnson performed a stunning cover of a Faith Hill ballad during a recent appearance on God’s Country.

The solo artist and former lead singer of Runaway June joined brothers and hosting duo Dan and Reid Isbell on the podcast. Dan and Reid said it was the “first time for a Faith Hill cover” on God’s Country as they shared a clip of Johnson’s rendition on Instagram. Johnson, who also announced her pregnancy with Baby No. 2 on the show, covered “It Matters To Me,” which Hill released on her studio album of the same name in 1995.

“This week Reid and Dan host the one and only Naomi Johnson out in God's Country. The episode starts off with an EXCLUSIVE announcement from Naomi and that is she is expecting baby #2 with her husband, Martin. Naomi shares her journey of navigating motherhood in the music industry and how she feels her nomadic upbringing prepared her best for this life. She shares some insane stories about growing up on a school bus with her 9 siblings, how they ended up in several different cults, and how salmon fishing in Alaska led her to Nashville. She shares stories of hunting with her siblings growing up and how one felony took away her dad's ability to hunt with a gun for life. She ends the episode with a gravorite that will matter to you.”

Dan and Reid — who have written music for Luke CombsMiranda LambertScotty McCreeryJon PardiLainey Wilson and others — started their weekly podcast in early January 2024. Some of the first guests to appear on the show include HARDYDustin LynchColbie Caillat and others.

“One of our favorite things about country music has always been how intertwined it is with the outdoors,” Dan and Reid Isbell said in a statement when God’s Country launched. They hope to “bring the outdoor enthusiast or country music lover an up close and personal look into the minds of some of the best songwriters and artists of the genre — a place where they can be honest about struggles, relationships, their connection to the outdoors, the music business, family, whatever they feel comfortable talking about. We can’t wait to see where this partnership will lead and who this podcast will reach.”
