As we transition into Autumn and the days grow darker, so does the general feeling among Americans, as many people draw parallels to dystopian scenarios and question whether the U.S. is on the brink of civil war.

With President Trump ordering the deployment of National Guard troops into cities across the country, we are also witnessing domestic terrorist sedition against targeted civilians and the federal government.

The divisions between “red” and “blue” America have deepened to the point where each side now views the other as “perfectly evil.” Democracy serves well for settling ordinary issues, but it struggles to negotiate deeply personal and identity-driven fights.

How do we overcome this political and ideological conflict and realize that we are being played by world leaders who delight in our demise?
