Maddie & Tae stirred nostalgia with a throwback clip from more than a decade ago.
Maddie Font and Taylor Kerr performed an acoustic rendition of “Girl In A Country Song,” the duo’s breakout single, in a clip they shared on TikTok on Monday (September 29). Maddie & Tae released the empowering anthem on their debut album, Start Here, in 2015. The duo shares that their single “skewered BroCountry’s female stereotypes and received the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame’s coveted I Wish I Wrote That Song honor, the ride-or-die besties have been speaking truth about what it means to be smart, young women.”
“Bein' the girl in a country song/ How in the world did it go so wrong?/ Like all we're good for is lookin' good for/ You and your friends on the weekend, nothin' more/ We used to get a little respect/ Now we're lucky if we even get/ To climb up in your truck, keep our mouth shut and ride along/ And be the girl in a country song”
Maddie & Tae wrote in their TikTok caption as they shared the throwback clip, “someone tell these girls they’ll be singing this song 11 years later and everyone will know the words.”
Most recently, Maddie & Tae released their studio album Love & Light earlier this year. The 16-track record includes “Heart They Didn’t Break,” “Free Like,” “Kissing Cowboys,” “What A Woman Can Do,” “Drunk Girls In Bathrooms,” “Chasing Babies & Raising Dreams,” “Sad Girl Summer” and more.
