FAMU Apologizes After Offensive Remark About Alabama State Dance Team

October 1, 2025

The president of Florida A&M University has issued a public apology to Alabama State University after FAMU’s band announcer, Joe Bullard, made an offensive remark about the Alabama State Honey Beez dance team.

The Honey Beez are known for celebrating body diversity and performing with Alabama State’s marching band. During their field performance last Saturday, Bullard referred to the dancers as “the new face of Ozempic,” sparking outrage across social media and the HBCU community.

Joe Bullard has been the voice of FAMU’s Marching 100 since 1975, was inducted into the FAMU Hall of Fame in 2010, and the National Black Radio Hall of Fame in 2022. The school has yet to say if disciplinary action will follow.
