Reba McEntire made a quick decision at the end of an aspiring country artist’s blind audition on The Voice.
Leyton Robinson, 23, a rising country star originally from Rogers, Arkansas, and currently lives in Nashville, Tennessee, took the stage with Ella Langley’s “weren’t for the wind.” It’s one of the award-winning singer-songwriter’s biggest hits from the deluxe edition of her debut studio record, hungover.
“Maybe that plane wouldn't ever take off/ Maybe that dust wouldn't fly off the drive/ Maybe that tumbleweed and me/ Wouldn't leave every other sunrise/ Maybe I'd settle down, dig in some roots/ Find me a farmhouse, find me a you/ Maybe I wouldn't be already gone again/ If it weren't for the wind”
Snoop Dogg was first to turn for Robinson, but at the last minute — seconds before Robinson’s performance ended — McEntire turned her chair, too.
“I turned early because the way you sound, the way you made me feel, the energy that you had moving around on stage, I feel like we belong together,” Snoop said.
“Leyton, you’re cute as a button,” McEntire told her. “I loved your singing. I have several country artists already on my team. but the more you sang, the more I fell in love with your voice. I would love to have you on my team.”
McEntire and Snoop returned to The Voice for the show’s 28th season, alongside Niall Horan and Michael Bublé. Ultimately, Robinson opted for Team Reba. Watch her audition here:
