What Voters Should Do About the Government Shutdown
October 1, 2025
So what does the federal government shutdown mean?
It does not mean that every government office is closed and it does not mean that every government function stops.
But it does mean that some service hours and functions are stopped or closed or slowed.
And it does mean that about 750-thousand federal workers are expected to be furloughed and it does mean that paychecks for members of the military, tens of thousands of them in San Diego, will be on hold until the shutdown is over.
A managing director at the Bipartisan Policy Center, a think tank in Washington. said this week that government shutdowns “only inflict economic cost, fear and confusion across the country.”
Sadly, government shutdowns are not new. This is the third during the two Trump administrations. There was one in 2013 in the Obama administration. And there were also shutdowns during the George W. Bush, Bill Clinton and Ronald Reagan years as well.
And of course every time there is a government shutdown, the President blames the Congress and the Congress blames the President.
It’s been said that voters should blame both of them….and remember that…the next time they vote.
