My Weekend: The White Mtns-Annoying Drivers-Winni Foliage & More
October 6, 2025
Let's get this straight, right off the bat: I'm NOT a "leaf peeper".
I'm a "foliage PHOTOGRAPHER"!
So, yeah, I spent a good chunk of time between Thursday (when I mentally START my weekend) and Sunday morning - travelling around looking for great looking spots. What I did NOT do - is go at peak times, or to many of the well known spots. I hate foliage traffic, so if I go out to check it out- I do so when others AREN'T.
And I luckily skated pretty easily down The Kancamagus - (the above image is right near the start of Bear Notch Rd just off the Kanc), and the below image is from the Rocky Gorge - which is on The Kanc) and got a few good shots in.
Hit our local farm again - wanted to grab some apples with Valerie at Butternut Farm (the family farm we've been going to for 30 years!)
And I've come to the realization that my wife is a bit of an - Apple Snob. She only likes Macintosh apples. Say whaaatt? There are tons of different varieties now - and she wants nothing to do with them because she "grew up on Macs"! Which, for the record - i did as well - but I roll with it! Gala's? Hell Yeah! Honey Crisp, let me at em! Autumn Gold - or whatever they are- BRING EM ON! IM IN! So - she pics a few Macs- and I load up with the variety pack!
Also had yet another run in with something that seems to be happening more and more nowadays. What's with people NOT pulling all the way up to the stop line at a stop light?
How in the name of ^*&% do you NOT know to pull up to the light sensor in the pavement KNOWS YOU'RE THERE??? How long have you been driving and you still don't notice that when you pull up short- you're stuck at the red light for a friggin HOUR!!!!!?
UGH! People- NOT A FAN sometimes!!! ;)
Oh and hey we visited this cool bar/pizza place for lunch on Saturday and sat at the bar! We had the coolest bartender ever- and LOOK WHAT HE WAS SERVING!
KELLY BROWN, ladies and gentlemen!!!! Great lunch at the Bratskellar Pizza Pub, as always!
Got out early on Sunday m orning and headed to Meredith NH to do a lap around Winnipesuakee to see if there was any good color in the trees there. Strange year, for sure. Great color one mile, none the next. But I was out there- 545 in the morning!
And there I was, on the side of the road, looking down at the walking bridge near the town docks - waiting for the sun to come up. And when it did- I was ready -
Not a bad start to the day, right? Pretty colorful! heres a few more I got from Sunday and my roadtrip on Thursday up into the Whites.
Here's one along Rt 302, just south of the Mt Washington Hotel (near Harts Location)
And no trip north is complete for me without a visit to Sugar Hill
And last but not least - one more from the Winni trip. This is from Meredith near a marina. Always wanted a good shot of this place.
Gotta say - it was a pretty good weekend! The weather was a little warmer than normal for this time of year, but it was still beautiful.
It was a good weekend to be outside-
See what I mean?
Hope you had a good one-
