Victoria Beckham is reflecting on "incredibly unhealthy way" she navigated body shaming comments when she was younger.
The Spice Girls alum, 51, made rare comments about her past struggles with an eating disorder impacted her life in the new Netflix documentary Victoria Beckham, per People. She recalled being "weighed on national television" just six months after giving birth to her and husband David Beckham's oldest child, Brooklyn Beckham in 1999. The experience and commentary on her physical body took a toll on her mental health, especially as a young mom.
"We laugh about it and we joke about it when we're on national television, but I was really, really young and that hurts," she said. "I really started to doubt myself and not like myself because I let it affect me. I didn't know what I saw when I looked in the mirror. You lose all sense of reality. I've been everything from Porky Pose to Skinny Posh."
Beckham said that because she had no control over what was written about her or the photos that were taken, she controlled her weight in an "incredibly unhealthy way." The fashion designer said that her eating disorder made her "very good at lying" and that she was "never honest" about her struggles with her parents, Page Six reports.
"I never talked about it in public. It really affects you when you're being told constantly that you're not good enough and I suppose that's been with me my whole life," she said.
