A GOP lawmaker is calling for the 22nd Amendment to be repealed to allow President Donald Trump to serve a third term after he helped broker a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas.
On Wednesday (October 8), Rep. Randy Fine (R-Florida) suggested the repeal, saying, "there will never be another one [president] like him [Trump]."
“If every living hostage is returned and lasting peace in the Middle East is secured, we should repeal the 22nd Amendment and thank the Lord for every day Donald Trump can be our President. There will never be another one like him,” Fine wrote on X.
The Nobel Peace Prize isn’t enough.

If every living hostage is returned and lasting peace in the Middle East is secured, we should repeal the 22nd Amendment and thank the Lord for every day @realdonaldtrump can be our President.
There will never be another one like him.
Fine's comment comes after Trump helped broker a ceasefire and hostage exchange between Israel and Hamas amid their prolonged conflict. The first phase of the agreement began Friday (October 10) at noon local time, giving Hamas 72 hours to release remaining Israeli hostages.
While speaking from the Oval Office on Thursday, Trump claimed credit for ending eight wars, despite his role in several of those conflicts being disputed.
“Nobody in history has solved eight wars in a period of nine months. And I've stopped eight wars. That's never happened before… I didn’t do it for [the Nobel]; I did it because I saved a lot of lives," Trump said.
The 22nd Amendment, ratified in 1951, prohibits U.S. presidents from being elected to more than two terms. Overturning it would require approval from two-thirds of both chambers of Congress and ratification by three-quarters of state legislatures.
Trump has made several comments about seeking a third term. In March, Trump suggested there were “methods” to stay in office beyond 2028, and his campaign has sold “Trump 2028” hats. Trump, however, told CNBC in August he would “probably not” run again after his second term.
Fine’s comments add fuel to ongoing speculation about Trump's political ambitions beyond his constitutionally limited tenure.
