Two artists delivered a “flawless” cover of a throwback Blake Shelton anthem during The Voice Battles on Monday evening (October 13).
Austin Gilbert and Rob Cole, hailing from Michael Bublé’s team, performed “Honey Bee” when they competed in the battle round. Shelton released the single in 2011 — the same year The Voice premiered — on his sixth studio album, Red River Blue. That album also included “God Gave Me You” and more. Bublé told Gilbert and Cole during rehearsals that “Blake would be happy to hear you do your version of Blake’s song.”
Shelton was one of the original coaches on the hit competition show. He remained on The Voice for more than 20 seasons before announcing his departure in October 2022. He officially ended his run in May 2023 to spend more time with his family. Shelton is married to powerhouse singer-songwriter Gwen Stefani (the pair met as coaches on the show in 2014), and is a stepfather to her three sons from her previous marriage. The country hitmaker remains the coach with the most wins on The Voice.
After Gilbert and Cole performed “Honey Bee,” Snoop Dogg — who returned to coach alongside Bublé, Niall Horan and Reba McEntire — said he “felt the spirit of Blake Shelton.”
Bublé selected the winner of the battle, and McEntire lived up to her strategy of stealing the other artist. She welcomed him to Team Reba in an emotional moment after the “Honey Bee” performance. Watch it below.
