Reba McEntire smiled and stood on her feet when Aubrey Nicole and Cori Kennedy took the stage with a rendition of “Somethin' Bad” during The Voice Battles. The Team Reba artists covered the 2014 anthem by Miranda Lambert and Carrie Underwood in a sneak peek video shared by the competition show on Tuesday (October 14).
McEntire beamed as she applauded the two artists.
“That’s how we battle,” coach Michael Bublé said after the performance. “I’ve said so many times in my life that if I could be anyone, I would be Reba McEntire. But not today, and not right now. I don’t know how she could choose one of you over the other because, for me, it’s impossible. …Sorry, Reba. I’m sorry that you have to do what you have to do, but you have to do it.”
Coaches Snoop Dogg and Niall Horan echoed the support for the Team Reba singers, and shared their suggestions with McEntire.
“Aubrey, Cori, great job,” McEntire said. “(You have) such powerful voices, and it’s always really scary when two of the greatest singers pair up. …But I totally enjoyed what you gals put together.”
“I love to encourage,” McEntire said of The Voice in an interview with iHeartCountry earlier this year. “I can’t tell anybody, ‘Don’t do this. Go get a job. You’re not suited for this.’ But the way that we get to do the – I don’t say critique – advice, it’s helpful advice. It’s not tear-down. We want to lift up. We want to inspire. We want to encourage, not tear down. They get enough of that out there in the world.”
The Voice airs on NBC on Mondays and Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET/7 p.m. CT. It’s available to stream the following day on Peacock.
