California police are searching for Morgan Crenshaw, a 17-year-old girl who has been missing since last month.
According to PEOPLE, Crenshaw was last seen on September 29 and was later reported missing by her family on October 5. Police said Crenshaw's disappearance is out of character for her and is considered suspicious.
The Antioch Police Department says her disappearance is considered suspicious.
“This is not a normal pattern of life for Crenshaw,” the Antioch Police Department said in a news release.
Based on interviews with acquaintances, investigators believe Crenshaw may have been spotted around 5 a.m. on October 3 in the area of International Boulevard and 12th Street in Oakland. Crenshaw's last known communication was a text message sent on October 3, two days before her family filed the missing person report.
Crenshaw's grandmother, the last person known to have seen her, told police that her granddaughter had said she was heading to Oakland.
Jaionyi Kennard, Crenshaw's sister, described her sibling as an “uplifting” person and said it’s unusual for them to go more than a day or two without speaking.
“My fear is her being held against her will,” Kennard said. “Whether that’s because she’s getting physically harmed or whether she’s getting threatened.”
In response to Crenshaw's disappearance, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) has issued an Ebony Alert, a statewide emergency notification for Black women and girls who are missing under suspicious circumstances or believed to be in danger or trafficked.
“Even the smallest piece of information can be the piece that leads to a successful recovery,” CHP said.
Anyone with information is urged to call 911 immediately. Crenshaw is described as 5 feet tall, weighing 110 pounds, and was last seen wearing a pink wig, black jacket, black pants, and black slippers.
