Gucci Mane Opens Up About Schizophrenia Diagnosis

Gucci Mane has publicly revealed his diagnosis of schizophrenia and bipolar disorder in his new memoir, Episodes, released on October 14th. In an interview on "The Breakfast Club" on Monday, October 20th, Gucci Mane and his wife, Keyshia Ka'oir, discussed how they manage his mental health challenges.

Ka'oir explained that she removes social media apps from his phone to keep his episodes private, noting that she can detect an episode by changes in his behavior and communication.

Gucci Mane shared that his mental health struggles have been ongoing, with one significant episode during the COVID-19 pandemic prompting him to seek help. He emphasized the importance of taking responsibility for his health, stating, "You got to do the work yourself if you want to really get better."

The rapper's memoir, co-written with music journalist Kathy Iandoli, explores his life, career, and mental health issues. Gucci Mane hopes that by sharing his story, he can help others facing similar challenges. He also released a 23-track album accompanying the memoir, showcasing a more vulnerable side of himself.

Despite the stigma surrounding mental health in the Black community, Gucci Mane's openness aims to encourage others to seek help. Ka'oir has been a steadfast support throughout their relationship, helping him manage his episodes and maintain his well-being.
