Real Housewives of Potomac star Wendy Osefo is claiming she was unlawfully arrested as she and her husband, Eddie Osefo, face fraud charges.
According to court documents obtained by Us Weekly, Osefo’s legal team has asked that all charges against her be dismissed, arguing there were “defects in the charging document.” The reality star is also seeking to suppress evidence and statements, alleging that they were obtained through an “unlawful search or seizure” and “illegal interception” of communications.
“All admissions, statements, or confessions should be excluded because they were unlawfully obtained,” Osefo's attorney wrote in the filing.
The filing comes after the Osefos were arrested on October 9 in Westminster, Maryland, following a grand jury indictment on charges of insurance fraud, conspiracy to commit fraud, and making false statements to police. The pair was later released on $50,000 bond.
Prosecutors allege the couple falsely reported a burglary at their home in April 2024 while they were on vacation in Jamaica. According to court filings, the pair claimed several luxury items were stolen, but police later found those same items during a search of the Osefos’ home. Investigators also said home security cameras showed no activity during the night of the alleged break-in.
Wendy’s attorney has also requested the court separate her trial from her husband’s, and has demanded prosecutors turn over all evidence, including witness lists, police reports, and information on any confidential informants.
A spokesperson for the Osefos previously said they were “grateful for the outpouring of concern and support from friends, fans, and colleagues” and that they “look forward to their day in court.”
Wendy Osefo, a professor and political commentator, joined The Real Housewives of Potomac in 2020 during its fifth season.
