WE PUT THE COPS ON THE HOOK And it is affecting how policing is done and not in a good way. DA Michael Allen of the 4th Judicial District was listening the other day when we talked about this study by the Common Sense Institute about how we've stopped putting criminals in jail and crime has gone up. He reached out to remind me that the changes made to qualified immunity for cops has also had negative pressure on policing, so we're going to check in with him about that today at 2:30.

NO MORE CANADIAN WOLVES, EH? The US Fish and Wildlife Service has sent a letter to Colorado about their plans to get more stupid wolves from Canada to infest our state with and it said no. As in NO, Colorado can't get wolves from Canada or Alaska as their permissions to move wolves was only from one very specific area of the US. Read it here, but I'm not sad.

HOW TO FIGURE OUT WHAT CANDIDATES REALLY MEAN If you have a local election coming up and are trying to figure out who to vote for, I'm going to give you some tips about what to watch for so you can figure out the political bent of these non-partisan races. Take this story on Arvada's City Council for example. If a candidate uses the word "unhoused" they lean left and probably think Housing First works (it doesn't). If they talk about "navigation centers" they probably lean right. Look at the words people use and you can figure it out. If you have questions and specific examples, like from a mailer, let me know and I will translate for you.

SOMEONE ELSE IS ATTACKED BY A GUY WHO SHOULD HAVE BEEN IN PRISON And this time it was a teacher in Thornton who was leaving her school when she was attacked and stabbed IN A SCHOOL CROSSWALK. This could have easily been a child or children attacked by a man who clearly should be in jail. Look at this winner's rap sheet:

Records show Brooks has a lengthy criminal history, including multiple prior felony convictions and charges for attempted homicide, theft, felony menacing, and assault with serious bodily injury, as well as parole violations as recently as 2024.

He seems nice. This is another example of how Colorado's soft on crime policies are victimizing law abiding citizens.

INFLATION IS STILL TOO HIGH BUT LOWER THAN EXPECTED Analysts projected it would come in at 3.1% annually but it squeaked in a bit lower at 3.0%, which is still too high. We have to get government spending under control. Period. That is the only way to fix this.

STOP TAKING ANIMAL MEDS PLEASE A woman who wanted to take Ivermectin for chronic pain was doing so by taking Ivermectin meant for horses. Now she's dead from ivermectin toxicity, which doesn't happen if you take the HUMAN dose. I'm so sorry for her family's loss, but REALLY??? And I've never even heard of Ivermectin for pain, that doesn't even make any sense. It's an anti-parasite drug. Stop this. Stop it right now.

I took the opportunity to share with the co-owner that the paper has a reputation of being left wing and perhaps this would be a good moment for introspection on how to better serve the entire community. We'll see if anyone takes that to heart.

TRUMP'S BRAND OF CAPITALISM IS REALLY SOCIALISM And I couldn't agree with this column more. When a government buys a stake in private corporation, that is socialism. I would argue that the problem with our economy is that our government is TOO involved in it, not the other way around. Read this bit:

The more political capital the government invests, the more it demands in return. It's only a matter of time until politically favored locations, suppliers, or hiring quotas shape Intel's decisions. That isn't capitalism.

Right now I'd argue that Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent knows his way around business, so maybe this doesn't happen. But do you trust anyone in the Biden admin to tell Intel what they can and can't do? I don't. This is why government should NOT be in business, they should just be making it easier for businesses to do the sort of business necessary for our national security. Period.
