Lady A Bandmates Talk 'Baby Boom,' Balancing Music And Newborns

Lady A bandmates Dave Haywood, Hillary Scott and Charles Kelley shared how they balance music and parenting after the band’s recent “baby boom.”
The Grammy-winning trio appeared on a recent episode of Love Someone: A Podcast with Delilah, and caught up on family life, their new Christmas record, their upcoming holiday tour and more. Haywood said “we’ve had quite the baby boom in Lady A over the last year. I had a boy a year ago, my third, Hillary had her fourth girl two months ago, and Charles has the latest model, a two-week old.”
Haywood and his wife, Kelli Cashiola Haywood, are parents to Cash Van, 10, Lillie Renee, 7, and Joseph Michael, who turned 1 over the summer. Scott and her husband, drummer Chris Tyrell, welcomed Baby No. 4, daughter Selah Jean, in July. Selah joined big sisters Eisele Kaye, 12, and twins Betsy and Emory, 7. Kelley and his wife, Cassie Kelley, welcomed son Archer Lancaster Kelley. Archer joins big brother Ward, 9, who was “over the moon” to meet his little brother. Haywood said on the episode of Love Someone: A Podcast with Delilah, that at least one of the kids is has to carry on the trio’s legacy in music. “And we’ve just gotta keep working for the unforeseeable future because I’ve got four weddings to pay for at some point!” Scott replied.
“I absolutely adore these three,” Delilah said. “Charles, Hillary, and Dave radiate such warmth and joy, and you can feel how much they love their families and their fans. We talked about the sweet chaos of Christmas mornings, bedtime carols, and why this new album is such a love letter to their kids and to everyone who believes in the beauty of the season. Lady A recently released On This Winter’s Night (Volume 2), more than a decade after the group’s first holiday record. The 11-track album combines original music with Lady A’s renditions of Christmas classics.
“We’re really excited about being on the road in December for our first Christmas tour,” Haywood previously said in a statement. “And that definitely calls for some new music too. This album is filled with so much joy and gratitude - I hope it reaches fans this season the way we feel it ourselves.”
