Why the Battle Over Prop 50 Will Mean an Even Bigger Battle

October 28, 2025

With one week to go before the official election day, there are signs the fierce political battle over Prop 50 here in California is not as fierce, at least in terms of money spent to advertise each side’s campaign to pass it or defeat it.

A lot of money has been spent on this battle over changing the way congressional districts are mapped in the state.

As reported this week, Republicans, who of course oppose Prop 50 because it would likely mean fewer GOP members of Congress from California appear to have all but abandoned their efforts to defeat it, as Politico puts it, "as Democrats pummel the state with Yes on 50 advertising, the Republican side of the battle has gone quiet.”

So, the outcome of the election appears to not be much in doubt.

But after next Tuesday the political battle between both parties will quickly begin to heat up again as both sides begin the big battle in the mid-term elections in 2026.

The political divide shows no signs of lessening, but only signs that it will become even a wider divide and an even more fierce of a battle.
