Six Monkeys Escape After Truck Crash in Mississippi

October 29, 2025

Authorities in Jasper County, Mississippi, are on alert after six monkeys escaped from a truck that overturned along a highway yesterday. The truck was reportedly transporting 21 monkeys from Tulane University when the accident occurred. Fifteen of the animals were recovered safely, but six managed to break free.

According to WAPT News, the escaped monkeys are an aggressive breed that can weigh around 40 pounds each. Local officials warn residents not to approach the animals, as handling them requires specialized protective equipment. “The monkey that got away actually crossed the interstate and went into a wooded area,” a sheriff’s office representative told reporters.

Animal control teams and university officials are working together to locate and safely capture the escaped primates. Residents are urged to stay vigilant and report any sightings immediately.

This unusual incident has sparked both concern and curiosity across social media, with many joking about “monkey business” in Mississippi.
