Billie Eilish isn't mincing her words.

The Hit Me Hard and Soft musician, 23, advocated for people with exorbitant amounts of wealth to give away some of their money while accepting the Music Innovator Award at the WSJ. Magazine Innovator Awards on Wednesday (October 29), per People. She explained that it is more important than ever to take care of people who need it the most.

"We're in a time right now where the world is really, really bad and really dark and people need empathy and help more than, kind of, ever, especially in our country," she said. "I'd say if you have money, it would be great to use it for good things, maybe give it to some people that need it."

She went a step further and called out billionaires, some of whom were in the room, for not spreading the wealth.

"Love you all, but there's a few people in here that have a lot more money than me," she said. "If you're a billionaire, why are you a billionaire? No hate, but yeah, give you money away, shorties."

One such billionaire was Mark Zuckerberg, who eyewitnesses reported to People didn't clap along with others in the crowd after Eilish's comments. The Facebook founder, worth around $257 billion, attended the event with his wife Priscilla Chan, a pediatrician who was also honored as the 2025 Philanthropy in Science Innovator for her work with the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative. CZI aims to create tools to target and treat diseases.

In 2015, the couple also pledged to give away 99% of their shares in Meta over the course of their lifetimes and have given away over $7 billion since 2015, according to the CZI website.

Eilish wasn't letting herself off the hook either. Though she isn't a billionaire, she is still sharing a large portion of her own wealth for good causes. Stephen Colbert announced during the event that the Happier Than Ever singer donated $11.5 million from her Hit Me Hard and Soft Tour "so support organizations, projects and voices dedicated to food equity, climate justice, reducing carbon pollution and combating the climate crisis."
