What to Do About the Information Overload
November 4, 2025
Is too much information harmful to mental health?
The question seems to contradict the belief that the more you know the more educated you are and that being well informed is a good thing.
While being generally well informed is seen as a good thing, we are living in what many call an age of information overload.
A recent study that focused on how we use our smart phones raises some concerns about too much incoming information, especially among middle school and high school kids.
The study suggests it is not good for their mental health.
The study found that because so much information is available now on smart phones, with every click, comes more information and then more information.
And with all the information from everywhere and everyone on social media, kids are sucked in and so use their phones even more.
And the researchers point out to numerous studies about how spending too much time on smartphones is bad for kids and for adults for that matter.
In other words, reducing the information overload and instead spending more time on more in person communication might be a smart move.
