Florida's Major Airports Prepare For Waits Amid Shutdown
(Tallahassee, FL) --Expect backups at Florida's major airports thanks to the shutdown. The FAA says staffing shortages are forcing a ten-percent cut in air traffic at 40 airports nationwide. Tampa, Orlando, Miami, Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood, and other major hubs are affected. The flight reductions begin today.
Eleven Arrested In Call Center Scam
(Miami, FL) --Nearly a dozen people stand accused of running a scam in Miami-Dade County. Eleven people were in court yesterday after they were arrested Wednesday at a rented home on Southwest 162nd Street. Prosecutors say the suspects were running a fake call center to steal personal information. Their charges include organized scheme to defraud.
Wallendas To Attempt World Record High Wire Walk
(Sarasota, FL) --Two members of the famous Wallenda family will try for another record. Nik Wallenda and sister Lijana will be in Sarasota tomorrow to attempt the highest and longest criss-cross tightrope walk ever. Even just attempting the walk will be a major accomplishment for Lijana. She almost died eight years ago when she fell about 35 feet while practicing on the high wire. Lijana hopes she can inspire others to overcome their own obstacles. She tells Fox 13 News everybody has a wire they've fallen off of in life, but they can get back up. Tomorrow's walk is set for 6:00 at University Town Center.
Driver Tries to Use Monopoly Card During Traffic Stop
(Fullerton, CA) --A Southern California police officer got a surprise when he pulled over a driver for a traffic violation. When the Fullerton Police officer approached the vehicle and asked for license and registration, the driver handed him a "Get Out of Jail Free" card from the board game, Monopoly. The officer had a good laugh, but let the driver know that, though he appreciated the creativity, it was not a legal defense. He wrote a citation anyway and later posted a photo of the exchange on social media.
